This week, Disney Parks announced their opening date for the new and highly anticipated Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway ride at Hollywood Studios. The opening date was recently announced at special presentation on Tuesday by the Disney Parks Experience and Products Chairman, Bob Chapek. Doors for the new Runaway Railway attraction will open on March 4, 2020.
This new attraction will replace the previously popular Great Movie Ride attraction that had been in the Chinese Theater since the park opened in 1989 as MGM Studios. Should we be excited for the new advancement or grieving the loss of a great attraction?
What is Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway?
This new dark ride experience is said to be the first of its kind and will take guests on an adventure through Mickey’s cartoon universe based on the art from the most recent cartoon shorts. Guests can look forward to unexpected twists and turns, slapstick humor, and more. The ride is said to be more than immersive than our typical dark rides such as Snow White, Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride, and Journey into Imagination with Figment. It is said to truly break you away from reality and make you feel like you’ve just ridden a runaway train into Toon Town.
Apparently, there are going to be more hidden Mickey’s in this ride than there ever has been before - so keep those eyes peeled on opening day and we’ll see how many we can find together! Here are some looks into the ride development.
Was it worth losing Great Movie Ride?
While it always does hurt to say goodbye to a classic attraction such as Great Movie Ride, we do think that it is necessary to constantly and consistently develop new attractions and grow the parks. I mean that’s what Walt wanted right?
“Disneyland will never be completed. It will continue to grow as long as there is imagination left in the world. It is something that will never be finished. Something that I can keep developing and adding to.” - Walt Disney
From what we understand, the graphics and effects are so much more technologically advanced than any other dark ride that we’ve experienced at the Disney Parks in the United States. It will be interesting to see what they do to make sure that this experience holds up to the enthusiasm and really blows us away. If the change is anything like the immersion of Rise of the Resistance at Galaxy’s Edge, we will be over the moon about it.
On the other hand, we won’t really be able to form a clear opinion on the whole situation until we try out the new ride for ourselves! To keep up with this ride and any of our other Foxy Adventures, make sure that you follow us on Instagram and Facebook and subscribe to our YouTube channel.
