In the wake of Hurricane Irma, the Walt Disney World Resort saw plenty of damage around the roadways. Mostly it was downed trees and branches strewn around, but a few signs fell victim that were noticeable to guests heading into the Magic Kingdom on Tuesday. These images were taken Monday morning after the storm had passed.
Crews inspected every inch of the 14.7 mile system that spreads over the three lines; resort loop, express loop and Epcot loop. A few of the plastic barrier covers that protect the 600-volt busbar along the concrete monorail beamway suffered some damage. These are a cosmetic feature that wouldn't affect the daily operation of the system if removed.
By Wednesday things were looking back to normal. All debris had been cleared off the roadway and off to the side, and work was well underway to restore the signage. There's still lots of work to be done inside the parks, specifically Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom. Disney's Ft. Wilderness Resort and Campground has closed indefinitely with damage far exceeding anything they expected.
